Sorry for the long down time of this blog. A lot has happened in 11 months, not even getting into it.

There is still a lot of primary source research to share about Grandpa and his submarines, I've just been really distracted.  Found at Grandma's house, here are some commemorative envelopes for the USS Darter and other lost submarines, produced in 1983. The Darter one is dated October 24, the day the Darter was lost. My grandparents used to fly their flag on all the lost submarine dates.

The USS Tang was lost the same day as the Darter, on 10/24/1944. But she went down with all hands. Tang actually sunk herself with one of her own torpedoes, the guidance malfunctioned and it turned around and hit the Tang. Though Darter appears on the list of lost submarines, her entire crew was rescued, thanks partly to the efforts of my grandfather.
